Ramura Remembered: Jim Smith R.I.P.

Here is a tribute to Jerry‘s brother, Jim Smith (1952-2020) who voiced the Little City in Space monster, Ramura. The original 1989 audio report, a humorous excerpt from the News From Nowhere beamed from orbiting satellite featured Jim as RamuraListen:

Rev-quiem for Ken Dresher

Here is a salute to Ken Dresher (d2019), rock-and-roll musician from Minnesota notable for his dynamic drumming as driving force behind the Ventures-inspired guitars of his band, The Revtunes; and creator of video farce with Ken’s spoof The Surf Toads.

This recently assembled tribute to Ken spotlights ten electrifying live instrumental tracks of The Revtunes at Minneapolis’ legendary 7th Street Entry in 1987, a band set list with Ken Dresher originals (Ride the Solar Wind; Hyper-Intension), revved instrumental classics like Out of Limits, Penetration and can Ken kick serious drum on Wipe Out?  To hear the Revtunes’ Entry concert, click here !!!

Near his Osseo, Minnesota childhood home, Chuck watched KANO announcers through the station’s street window. Later, his radio activity included discovery of The Oidar Wavelength; KAAY with Beeker Street‘s distinctive electronic sounds. In high school, a comedy team with Dave Johnson led to a production for KAXE, where Chuck met Bill McKeever; Jerry recounts meeting Chuck at KFAI in 1982. Bonus: vintage records by Johnny Fields and Junior Ferguson.

Jack Norton & The Fickel Shitts Play Schnickelfritz (Video, 2004)

In concert on stage at the Winona Art Center, time-lost troubadour Jack Norton recreates 1930s novelty music by local legend Freddie Fisher, as part of Schnickelfest 2004, with a band of Twin Cities stalwarts including the Southside Aces.

Jerry Modjeski‘s introductory historical narration describes Fisher’s performing life and success in Winona, St. Paul, Hollywood and Aspen, Colorado. Watch:

Mysterious Traveller (Movie, 1978)

Here is a short cartoon filmed on Super 8 for a high school class project by Mark Masyga and Jerry Modjeski. Watch:

Finally the original analog soundtrack, previously played back on portable cassette player each time the movie was projected, is now united digitally with picture; greatly assisted by Greg Carr.
